PUBLIC school teachers will enjoy a P9,000 salary increase to be given within three years if certain bills pending in Congress are approved.
House Bill 4734 and Senate Bill 2408 seek to give additional pay for teachers that would make their salaries “at par with those received by soldiers and policemen.”
The bills propose that all public school teachers, locally-funded teachers, Philippine Science High School system teaching and non-teaching personnel and non-teaching personnel of the Department of Education (DepEd) with a salary grade level lower than 30 be entitled to the increase.
The Department of Education (DepEd) is lobbying with the Lower House and the Senate for the approval of the bills, which already passed second reading in the Senate.
Fewer hours
Teachers will be entitled to receive an additional pay of P9,000, which will be paid in full within three years, or an increase of P3,000 per year, if the bills are approved.
“Teachers’ welfare and benefits are our top priority,” Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said in press statement.
Still on the welfare of teachers, DepEd released a new set of guidelines on the reduction of classroom instruction hours.
The guidelines ensure compliance of the Civil Service Commission rule that allows teachers six hours of classroom teaching, instead of the usual eight hours.
DepEd also released P400 million last year to partially settle unpaid loyalty pay, step increments and other entitlements of its personnel.
The amount is on top of the P388 million released to cover Philhealth premium adjustments due to the increase of premiums from P100 to P112.
To provide houses for its teachers, DepEd signed a memorandum of agreement with Gawad Kalinga, Pag-Ibig and local government units to provide homes to more than 90,000 teachers nationwide who still do not have their own houses. (EPB)

it's about time that the gov't will look into this problem. some teachers i have known has not only decided to go abroad but some have resorted to do some indecent jobs just to meet all ends. even their own pupils knows that "ma'am" is making money thru internet, fooling around with some aging foreigners, etc.

I really hope this time the people in the Congress and Senate will act on this seriously and as soon as possible because our salary now cannot cope up already of the rising of the prices of commodity.

teachers deserve that increase.teachers are considered as assets of our country.there will be no doctors, nurses, engineers, or other professions without teachers.but sad to know that teachers salary is just a small amount compared to their responsibilities.to the senate and congress, please pay attention to teachers salary.what if this 9,000 increase be given immediately this year?what is the purpose of delaying this increase?please do not delay this one.our teachers really need this increase!

this is good news to all the teachers hope that this request be imposed as so as possible, we think this thing need not to be discuss in any congress or senate we all knew teachers hard work nite and day dedications to his/her work, making lesson plan, classroom discussions, computation of grades, making reports every now and then, attending seminars, everyone knew the process it's not easy and after all this thing they will just receive a small salary. Which is not fair'! give attention! thanks!

Most of the teachers are like beggars in lending institution just to cope with the needs of their family. i hope our deped officials will really do their part to help uplift the morale of the teachers.

I've heard that the increase for mens in uniform as police, soldiers and so on is 100%. is it that unfair especially to teachers because being a teacher is a very tiresome work in molding the young minds of the students. its very unfair for us teachers if this can be approved. the work of the police are just very easy for they are just taking care of peaCE... Please take an action regarding this matter my fellow mentors.

Ive heard that Men in Uniforms as PNP, soldiers and so on are having their 100% increase this year. It it not that unfair for us teachers? Teachers are the molders of the young minds and this job is very tiresome compared to police. Its very unfair!!!please teachers please try to check about it. PNP's are just known for those who take care of peace. they are not worthy to be given that great salary increase.

i'm just new in the public school but i've seen alot of teachers having problem in their salary especially those who are sending their kids in college... what's just left in their pay slip is not enough due to loans... many resigned and sacrificed to work abroad as domestic helpers..it's good that other teachers land a better job abroad... we always want to give good education to our students but have we seen the needs of the teachers? it's about time to give what is due to us.. we've been working for long and tiring hours but paid less.....

I hope the bill will get approved before the election day, coz if it's not, then the process would take longer than it should because by then, the government will have new set of leaders, new set of policies, and God knows what.

Salary Increase? kulang pa. Q: Bakit ba ang teachers maraming loan? A:
(sino mang may idagdag, ipost nyo)

y not give the increase after the bill will be approved?... Teachers deserve the best. We spend more time in school than our families...Sa taas ba naman ng bilihin mAg loan parin ang mga guro. That would not reflect in 3 years.
