Following the finalizing of the Pre-School Law in January this season which mandates that all 5 year olds must take kindergarten to ready them for basic classes, aid comes into play from the Japanese government comprising a US$1.5 million financial aid.
The Japanese Government Finance for Poverty Reduction ) provides a grant of US$1,500,000 to reinforce access to good quality early childhood instruction in poor smaller communities to the Department of Education (DepEd) which works as the accomplishing agency.
The Asian Development Bank manages the grant pursuant to an agreement ADB has inked with the Administration of Japan. It will be implemented by the Aklat, Gabay, Tungo sa Pag-angat at Pag-asa (AGAPP) Foundation. DepEd and AGAPP shall execute the JFPR project with due diligence and productivity as agreed in the agreement.
The project aims to assist DepEd’s K to 12 program specially in the institutionalization of Kindergarten by means of classroom constructions, course improvement and instructor trainings.
Education Secretary said this is a most desired development given that it affirms DepEd’s posture on the significance that must be given to primary education especially early childhood training.
“Kindergarten is a critical foundation in delivering excellent graduates of basic learning, so we must start on a solid footing by organizing our young learners very well,” added Luistro.
The grant will fund expanded usage of Pre-School education by supplying essential school infrastructure and facilities. It will also boost the potential of teachers by providing them courses and training courses.
It's going to engage other education stakeholders in the neighborhood by building supportable relationships with civil modern society, company sector, and local non-government organizations (NGOs). The grant also allots provision for project tracking and review.
