DepED has arrived with the implementing guidelines on the
approve of 3-step paycheck increase for teachers of Science and/or Mathematics
in public institutions to further improve their teaching of these major
subjects.
The Department of Budget and Management has early circulated
a circular pursuant to a Joint Resolution No. 4 of the Senate and House of
Representatives which states that teachers with field of expertise in Science
and/or Mathematics are going to be given additional pay three steps more
his/her assigned grade.
The National Budget Circular No. 531 series of 2011 claims
that the grant of a 3-step pay increase serves as an incentive for teachers to
specialize in Science and/or Mathematics according to the thrust of giving
attention to teaching these subjects around in basic education.
“Science and Mathematics are significant tools of
industrialization which we certainly need to boost our global competitiveness,”
said Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro.
The guideline features incumbent Teacher I, II, III in
public elementary and secondary schools who concentrate teaching Science and
Mathematics. The first approve of step increment began in January 2011 while
the succeeding grants are usually operative for every January of the year.
A one-time three- salary- step increment is intended to be
granted to a teacher who meets the criteria on academic attainment, teaching
load, general performance rating, teaching experiences and applicable training.
According to DepEd Order 79 series of 2002, the school head
shall identify qualified teachers based on the review of provided documents
which are: recognized appointment, transcript of records, certificates of
training carried out in Science and Math, individual teachers programme
implying daily subject load for the past three school years, performance scores
for the last three years and updated service information.
